SaferVPN Review & Comparison
About SaferVPN
A virtual private network, aka VPN, is a service which provides the Internet users with anonymity and security, the lack of which is present in the modern virtual world. A VPN prevents information leaks allowing users to remain private during all the time of their browsing.
This service also lifts such restrictions like geo-blocked websites and Internet resources with the excessive censorship. A VPN is popular in the countries which control their citizens’ online activities. Its uptake doesn’t allow government organizations to get an access to users’ database.
It’s important to underline that this service is a great tool for protection against hackers, malware and annoying adverts, too.
The central figure of this review is SaferVPN. This VPN provider like any other top VPNs is also aimed to help users who face the problems of geo-restrictions, lack of anonymity and safety.

The range of protocols provided by this top VPN service includes PPTP, L2TP/IPSec, IKEV2 and OpenVPN. However, the best choice out of all these available options is OpenVPN.
OpenVPN has a powerful AES 256-bit data encryption and 2048bit SSL/TLS handshake encryption. It also uses SHA256 for control messages. This protocol is not only safe but also doesn’t slow down a speed.

SaferVPN Compatibility
Though such feature as compatibility may seem to be not as crucial as anonymity or data encryption, sometimes it can turn out to be a real trouble or a determinative factor while choosing the best VPN provider.
Imagine you’ve found the best VPN service with a top-notch security and privacy level, a helpful team and great variety of server locations. But it’s only minus is that it isn’t compatible with the platform of your device. We give 99.9% that you will look for the other VPN provider which has a better compatibility level.
SaferVPN won’t put you into such stressful life situation as it works on all devices and has apps for almost all popular platforms – Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Routers and even Chrome.
Nevertheless, the owners of Ubuntu OS aren’t able to make use of SaferVPN as there is no app for this platform. In case you belong to this category, it’s better to look for a VPN which is suitable namely for Linux OS.
back to menu ↑Installation, Speed and Leak Protection
Windows VPN client
The first SaferVPN client we decided to test was Windows desktop version. Installation process is easy and contains a short VPN guide.
Design of Windows VPN client is not only nice but also convenient in use.
There are settings by means of which you can choose a protocol, location, etc.
Note that via this client you can also contact SaferVPN customer support.
We didn’t find any IP and DNS leaks. Thus, SaferVPN really proved to be a safe provider.
Speed test showed us average results. But if to look at the US servers they are really good. Usually their speed is sufficiently slowed-down because of the long distance, but here it’s really fine.
When we checked SaferVPN on Fast.com we got the following results.
Due to the fact Netflix is actively blocking VPN, you might run into some issues every now and again, regardless of which VPN service you’re using. In case you get a Netflix proxy error while using SaferVPN, simply contact SaferVPN customer support for instructions on how to bypass the issue.
IOS VPN client
As well as a desktop version, mobile VPN client has a short guide in the beginning of the installation process.
This client is also rather cute and has a high usability level.
You can choose a necessary server from the location list you are offered.
As you can see, this VPN client has also got an option of automatic warnings for the safe public Wi-Fi use.
As well as a desktop version this VPN client doesn’t have any DNS or IP leaks, too.
It’s a pity, but the speed of mobile VPN has got worse results than a desktop version.
SaferVPN Chrome Extension
In March, 2016 SaferVPN announced the launch of a new Chrome Extension. Its installation won’t take much time but its uptake will make your browsing much safer.
To download this extension you can either visit their website Download category and choose Chrome extension, or visit Chrome store and get this widget there. Your next step is to log in. To do this you need a user name and password you have already got, or start a free 24-hour trial.
Having installed this extension you can start using it. You can do this in the following way:
1) Visit one of the websites, an access to which is restricted (usually these are Spotify, Pandora, Amazon, etc).
2) Click on the SaferVPN Chrome extension icon and click Connect.
3) Then refresh the page and you will see that a previously blocked website is now accessible.
Together with Chrome extension you can connect to any international server which is in SaferVPN location list and remain anonymous and safe even using a Wi-Fi hotspot. You can also create a separate list of your favorite locations/servers.
On the whole SaferVPN browser extension is very simple and has lots of in common with desktop and mobile versions. The only difference is that Chrome extension doesn’t have any settings.
back to menu ↑SaferVPN Support
This SaferVPN supplier feature deserves a special attention because this provider has worked out the whole system of customer support which involves different forms.
First of all, we are glad to inform you that this VPN service provides a 24/7 Live Chat. Whatever support forms a provider has – Live Chat is still considered to be one of the best. And it is not strange, as you receive the answer to your question here and now what is especially relevant in emergency situations.
However, not every Live Chat means good quality and help. We have checked SaferVPN VPN Live Chat and were pleasantly surprised to find out that it is multilingual. We asked in French and we got our answer in French, too. It’s a boon to those who need to explain their problem not in English but in other language.
As to the other ways of support, SaferVPN offers an option of quick search for the answers using a search field.
On the whole, their Help Center covers the most popular topics and offers a range of setup guides and other relevant articles.
SaferVPN also leads its blog where they share their news and information which can be useful for their clients.
back to menu ↑SaferVPN Website
The layout of SaferVPN website is very handy for use. First of all you can easily find the topic you are interested in as all the categories are placed on the top and bottom of any website page. There is also a quick access to Live Chat thanks to a chat popup window.

back to menu ↑Review Summary
To sum up the VPN review – as a top and one of the best VPN providers, SaferVPN ticks a lot of right boxes. They basically are a VPN service provider which focuses on security, simplicity and speed. On one hand, it has a number of useful options and characteristics like AES 256-bit encryption, reasonable prices, 14-day money-back guarantee, pleasant and friendly looking website, and a great speed.
On the other, you have user-friendly apps you can use on most of your devices. What struck us the most however, was the fact SaferVPN’s customer service were highly responsive, friendly, and most importantly, honest.
All in all, there is no reason that would hold us back from recommending this particular VPN to anybody who’s looking for ways to both protect their privacy online and bypass geo-restrictions.
Pros
- Reasonable pricing policy
- AES 256-bit encryption
- Easy to use
- 14-day money-back guarantee
- 24-hour free trial
- Informative website
- Unlimited speed, bandwidth and server switching
Cons
- Doesn’t support Linux OS
- Murky privacy policy
Oww!!!This is great.I actually didn’t know about the customization services. Now I am gonna use it more fluently.Thanks.
I am glad with the pricing policy of SaferVPN. I could use the 24-hour trial, this is good.
I love that Safer VPN doesn’t ask for an arm and a leg when you sign up. I’ve seen other services ask for a LOT of personal information which I don’t want to give out to anyone. The one-day free trial is a meh for me. If you want to give me a free trial you’d better give me at least 7 days so I can see your service at work in peace. I don’t like to be hurried along and I can’t see much in 24 hours.
What I liked about this VPN service is that you can receive a free month when a friend joins. It’s a pretty good deal if you ask me. Their service is top-notch although their prices are a bit on the more expensive side. Like the 400 servers, don’t like the (just) 24 locations. Maybe if it was more like 50 locations I would have been happy. For the amount of money they ask, they should have had a bit more locations.
Great to read about Safer Vpn review and comparison. Thanks for sharing
